One Million and One Trees Initiative

Description of the initiative:

EPDA – RAK has initiated the initiative in 2015 to plant and protect local trees in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. The initiative is exclusive for the Local trees that consume less water. The request for trees is taken through Estidama Mobile App

Objectives of the initiative:

The initiative aims to contribute in the reduction of the Carbon Footprint; reduce Global Warming effects; reduce the consumption of groundwater; spread the green area; and spread environmental awareness & the culture of planting and protection of the local trees.

Artificial Reef Project

Description of the initiative:

EPDA implemented the project in cooperation with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment in order to develop the fisheries stock in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah by bringing concrete forms to the seabed as incubators for small fish and artificial habitats of marine organisms. The project reflects the commitment of the two parties to the UAE's environmental strategy 2021. 973 artificial reef balls were placed in 9 different locations along the coast of Ras Al Khaimah. The project reflected in the increase in fish stocks and the diversity of marine organisms in the artificial reef. The project was initiated as a recommendation of the 3rd International Conference on Global Warming: Food Security, that was organized by EPDA in 2015. It was one of the recommendations of the conference which was initiated and implemented by EPDA and then cooperated and coordinated with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment to implement it in addition to a package of projects and other mutual services that were included in the strategic partnership agreement between the two parties. The global experience in the design of artificial reef has been used as it has gone through many stages and have benefited from the use of the latest designs that proved their usefulness and strength to withstand the conditions and conditions of the volatile marine, dome-shaped design, that is designed by the Reef Ball Foundation , and proved by a number of scientific studies.

“AL-HASBAH” Initiative for Fishermen Happiness

Description of the initiative:

EPDA launched “AL-HASBAH” Initiative for Fishermen Happiness by providing “AL-HASBAH” Service Center for fishermen in the Ras Al-Khaimah fishing port, that provides all the fishermen services a service center close to the fishermen. EPDA provided 3 ice factories in the Emirate providing ice at prices below market prices; it operated boat repair workshops & provided fishing equipment in the fishing ports. It also contracted with a barbershop in the Emirate to provide shaving services for fishermen and provided a restaurant and supermarket in fishing ports to serve fishing workers in ports.

This initiative aims to make the fishermen happy and to provide distinguished high quality services to achieve the highest degree of satisfaction and happiness

Environmental Carnival

Description of the initiative:

EPDA looks forward to meet the the community needs for the different types of ecosystems knowledge of the emirate, and the environmental carnival is exclusive for the EPDA and an event that is repeated annually. In the presence of HE Dr. Thani Al-Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, EPDA launched the Environmental Carnival in the innovation month 2018, it was unprecedented innovative activity at the level of the UAE, where it was implemented in a large public presence on the Al Qawasim Corniche and with the participation of students from the student environmental protection teams in various stages. 10 environmental panels displayed that reflect the ecosystems of the emirate, accompanied with musical performances.

The Environmental Carnival aims to attract the largest number of people and introduce some innovative environmental ideas in a short period of time

Replacement of Environmental Fines with Local Trees Plantation

Description of the initiative:

EPDA launched this initiative to plant local trees instead of paying the environmental fines according to a mechanism that EPDA is applying to replace the environmental fines of industries and small vendors. The mechanism has set a minimum replacement fee of AED 1000 for Industries and AED 500 for small vendors. The plantation shall be in coordination with EPDA and the water source shall be determined.

This initiative aims to increase the environmental awareness to the society; and protect the local trees by planting and taking care of them.

Environmental Sustainability Award

Description of the initiative:

His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, in protecting the environment and the sustainability of natural resources. The Executive Council, EPDA launched the Environmental Sustainability Award in support of EPDA strategic objectives related to enhancing the participation of government sectors in environmental awareness, reducing the environmental footprint and involving them in contributing to raising the level of environmental awareness Categories of society.

Objectives of the initiative:

Establishing the principles of sustainable development. and dissemination of the concept of environmental culture among different sectors. and promote a sense of community environmental responsibility and activate the environmental activities targeted and distinguished in the environmental field and appreciate and encourage outstanding contributions in the field of environmental conservation by institutions seeking excellence and innovation.

Feminine Monitoring for Sustainable Environment

Description of the initiative:

An initiative developed by the Environment Protection and Development Authority to empower women in different categories (housewives - government employees - educational leaders and teachers - students - employees and volunteers in associations, clubs and social centers - workers in auxiliary professions - media - people of concern) in the field of environmental work through the provision of measurement and awareness services Environmental and Environmental Control. They play a supervisory role on the coasts, beaches, landing areas, fish markets and restaurants.

This initiative aims at empowering women in the field of environmental work; and applying best practices in environmental protection and sustainability of their resources.

Student Environment Protection Teams Award

Description of the initiative:

This award aims to promote environmental awareness among school students and spread the culture of conservation in schools and homes. EPDA has implemented several programs for this project. It launched the Environmental Researcher Workshop by inviting students to Khor Muzahmi Protected Area, students learnt how to use the microscope and how to identify the mangrove trees and the importance of protecting them. And they planted the mangrove trees in Khor Muzahmi Protected Area.

This award aims to spread the environmental awareness among students and the society and consolidate the concept of environmental protection among the students
