His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah and Chairman of the Executive Council, attended the volunteer mangrove planting campaign organized by the Environment Protection and Development Authority (EPDA) in collaboration with the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) at Al Muzahmi Nature Reserve, marking the International Day for Biological Diversity and in the presence of directors general from the Government of Ras Al Khaimah.

The campaign reflects the wise leadership’s commitment to sustainability and environmental protection efforts, while supporting national initiatives aimed at conserving biodiversity and natural habitats in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. It also seeks to raise environmental awareness about the importance of mangrove trees and their vital role in maintaining ecological balance, protecting coastlines, and promoting a culture of social responsibility and volunteerism.

Dr. Mohammed Yousef Al Madfaai Al Hammadi, Director General of the Environment Protection and Development Authority, affirmed that the Authority remains committed to implementing environmental initiatives that contribute to protecting ecosystems and strengthening sustainability principles. He noted that Al Muzahmi Nature Reserve is one of the emirate’s most important environmental destinations, receiving the support and patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, as well as the continued follow-up of His Highness the Crown Prince, to highlight the emirate’s environmental achievements.

For her part, Habiba Al Mar’ashi, Chairperson of the Emirates Environmental Group, stated that the total number of trees pledged for planting by the group has reached 2,162,287 trees, contributing to the reduction of approximately 199,015.38 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. This reflects the long-term tangible impact of sustainable afforestation initiatives across the UAE.

It is worth noting that His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, issued Emiri Decree No. 3 of 2018 declaring Al Muzahmi a protected natural reserve. The reserve is located 14 kilometres south of Ras Al Khaimah City and covers an area of 3 square kilometres.
