The Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Dr. Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi stated that 50% of the cement factories in Ras Al Khaimah apply the waste energy utilization project in their plants, in order to reduce heat pollution and air pollution significantly. The majority of energy is recycled in the system through the waste heat recovery technology, which reduces the exploitation of electricity and saves it. In accordance with Ministerial Decision No. 137 on the guidelines for the organization of the work of cement factories for the year 2012 to encourage factories to use alternative fuels of various types.He added that future plans of the ministry aim to increase the use of factories for alternative fuels resulting from waste treatment operations, which will contribute to the preservation of non-renewable natural resources.Al Zeyoudi pointed out that environmental laws and legislation contributed to controlling the environmental impact of industries. Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has obliged the owners of the establishments to link the emissions from the chimneys directly with central control units, which authorizes the local authorities to monitor the factories and act appropriately in case of any exceeding the limits allowed.The joint audits between specialists from the Ministry and EPDA on priority establishments at different periods have played a major role in the inspection and controlling for industrial zones and their compliance with the laws and regulations stipulated. Climate change and the problem of global warming have become the most important challenge for the international community with the increasing repercussions that the countries of the world are witnessing at the present time from rising temperatures, tsunamis, hurricanes, floods and droughts.For his part, Dr. Saif Mohammed Al Ghais, Director General of EPDA in Ras Al Khaimah, said that the conference would witness the presentation of 30 specialized scientific papers from more than ten countries representing the Arab region, the African continent and the Middle East, in addition to the European Union and the United States of America.He added that the scientific papers would discuss environmental legislations and mechanisms for their implementation and their effects and the role of climate change and its effects on the marine eco-system. In addition to case studies to comply with government policies and regulations to combat global warming and the extent to which recent technological developments have contributed to reducing the effects of global warming. The conference will also discuss climate change and adaptation policies and reduce the impact of global warming on threatened species in different ecosystems.
