1400 citizens maintain the fishing profession in Ras Al-Khaimah
Dr. Saif Mohamed Al Ghais, Director General of EPDA confirmed that the number of citizen fishermen working in the fishing profession in Ras Al-Khaimah is 1400 fishermen, indicating that the emirate allocates 50% of its production of fresh fish daily for sale in all of the country’s markets. He pointed out that the development of the eight fishing ports and markets in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah contributed to preserving the emirate’s historical position in the fishing sector, which it gained during the past years through exporting to various countries of the region, pointing out that despite the decline in many other heritage occupations, it has maintained The fishing profession is at its forefront. He pointed out that this sector would not have maintained this position had it not been for the large government support that was provided during the past years, which was to develop fishing ports and support for fishermen and provide incentives for them to continue in this important heritage profession. Al-Ghais explained that the Emirate of Ras Al-Khaimah includes 8 fishing ports: Al-Jeer, Ghalila, Shaam, Khor Khwer, Al-Rams, Al-Mairid, Ras Al-Khaimah and Al-Jazeera Al-Hamra.
