Memorandum of Understanding between EPDA and IFAW

In a step to harmonize efforts and enhance the role of the EPDA in protecting the environment and its components, A meeting was held today at the EPDA’s place with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (ifaw) To sign a Memorandum of Understanding. The signing of this Memorandum aims to lay the foundation for cooperation between the two parties and to promote joint efforts and exchange their extensive and specialized knowledge and experience in many key areas related to environmental activities.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Saif Mohammed Al Ghais, Director General of the Environment Protection and Development Authority, and Mr. Azzedine Downes, Executive Director of the Middle East and North Africa Office of the International Fund for Animal Welfare. Under the memorandum of understanding, the two parties will train the employees of the concerned authorities in the application of regulations and regulations that ensure the sustainability of environmental regulations, in addition to practicing awareness activities in the field of animal welfare and directing them to address local issues of animal welfare. It also includes cooperation in wildlife conservation.

According to the memorandum, the International Fund for Animal Welfare will provide information and expertise on issues related to animal welfare and protection. The Parties will also use the best scientific information available while ensuring the preservation of national identity and taking into account the religious and cultural dimension when adopting or supporting any awareness activities.

For his part, Dr. Saif Mohammed Al Ghais, Director General of EPDA, said that the UAE attaches great importance to the issue of animal welfare, which is one of the influential issues related to the environment and stipulated by our true religion and our traditional social customs. And it is necessary to encourage community groups to contribute to promoting awareness of the importance of caring and protection of creatures, through the launch of awareness programs and initiatives. He also urged the public to treat animals humanely and gently, and encourage them to participate in all animal protection programs. Al Ghais added that we are responsible of Educating the public on the role of animals in maintaining an ecological balance that ensures the continuity of life.
