EPDA Laboratories obtain ISO 9001 certification

The laboratories of the Environment Protection and Development Authority in Ras Al Khaimah have obtained an ISO 9001: 2015 certificate, as the scope of this certificate includes all the tasks that the laboratory performs, such as studying the state of the environment, analyzing water, soil, plant and fish samples, etc. and preparing research that can be published in scientific journals.

Dr. Saif Muhammad Al-Ghais, Director General of the Environment Protection and Development Authority in Ras Al Khaimah, stated that one of the authority's most important specializations, which was stipulated by Law No. 2 of 2007 regarding the establishment of the authority, is to establish reference laboratories for the environment in the emirate, and to provide the technical staff and equipment necessary to operate them. The ISO certification reflects the laboratory’s commitment to achieving the authority’s vision of protecting the environment and the sustainability of its resources, and its commitment to providing high-quality and timely analyzes for all samples and to meet the requirements and expectations of customers or exceed their expectations


Al-Ghais added that this certificate confirms the success of laboratories in designing a quality management system to ensure the maintenance of a high level of quality of their services, innovation and excellence in preparing research that can be published in scientific journals and studying the state of the environment through managing and documenting a system of operations and verification at all stages of procedures the work., The authority's laboratories are in close cooperation with laboratories, research centers, universities, international scientific journals, other local and federal government agencies, and partners related to the field of laboratory work, and to support this, the quality policy guarantees the commitment of the laboratory management and employees to provide high-quality test results and excellent professional service to customers, and the presence of A strict quality control program with the aim of ensuring the quality of the test results, and the commitment to review the quality policy to ensure their suitability, and to communicate them to the employees of the laboratory, the authority, the concerned parties and to the concerned authorities, as well as to ensure the continuity of the application and development of the quality management system in an efficient and effective manner.

It should be noted that the authority's laboratories provide testing services for all types of environmental samples (drinking water, industrial wastewater, soil, reservoir water, groundwater, sea water and others) and prepare and publish researches in international refereed journals in the fields of microbiology that have recently started. Nutrients and nutritional content, antibacterial toxicology, algae toxicology, and verification of the analytical method, where the authority, through laboratories, has succeeded in publishing dozens of research papers in scientific conferences and journals, including pioneering research that dealt with unprecedented topics such as protein extraction from tree leaves and bark Ghaf and protein extraction from algae as food alternatives that meet the needs of food security in the distant future, and the contribution of algae to carbon dioxide absorption with the possibility of using Ghaf tree leaves in the extraction of medicinal drugs.
