EPDA carries out maintenance for berths and landing areas

The Environmental Protection Authority in Ras Al Khaimah, in cooperation with the Ras Al Khaimah Ports Authority represented in Saqr Port yesterday, launched a project to maintain some moorings and fish landing areas in a number of fishing ports, within the authority’s initiatives related to supporting this vital and important sector, which is in the interest of fishermen in the Emirate.

Dr. Saif Al Ghais, Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Authority in Ras Al Khaimah, explained that the fish landing area in the Ras Al Khaimah market was previously replaced, and based on the observations of the fishermen, the authority is conducting the necessary maintenance operations for it, in cooperation with Saqr Port, and maintenance operations will include installing a new roof, and cladding The bearings of the bearing platform, and cover it with plastic materials to protect it from rust.

He added: In conjunction with this project, maintenance work has started in the port of Khor Khuwair port, which was damaged during the last period due to a ship collision by one of the companies in the port of Saqr, where the fishermen whose boats were also damaged, and maintenance operations will extend to a number of berths in some Other ports, pointing out that the fishing sector is of great importance for its role in achieving food security in the country, and the sector has witnessed a comprehensive development movement for fishing ports that positively reflected on its workers and their families, as the Emirate includes about 1,800 fishermen, and includes eight ports: lime Sha'am, Ghalila, Khur Khwer, For arms, Almaaarb, Ras Al Khaimah, the red island.

Dr. Al-Ghais continued: The Emirate of Ras Al-Khaimah produces between 15-20 thousand tons of fresh fish annually covering the emirate's markets, and whatever is inundated is exported to neighboring markets, noting that the country's fish sector is one of the most important sectors that contribute to achieving the food security system that it adopts. The government is for most sectors, noting that Ras Al Khaimah was a major fishing center in the past in the Gulf region, and it currently maintains this position through the great attention paid by the responsible leadership to this sector.

Al-Ghadeh emphasized that the authority implemented during the last period many initiatives that benefited the fishermen, and the coming period will witness the establishment of seafarers service centers in each of the ports of Al-Mairid, Ras Al-Khaimah and Ghalila, where fishing equipment and boat repair workshops will be provided, as well as councils equipped with Internet services.
