RAK EPDA organizes an international conference on global warming

The Environment Protection and Development Authority (EPDA) in Ras Al Khaimah revealed that it is preparing to organize the International Conference on Global Warming and its impact on food security which will be held during the period from 5th to 7th May, with the participation of international scientists and a group of academic speakers from the US space agency «NASA» and FAO and UAE University.

Dr. Saif Al Ghais, CEO of EPDA-RAK, explained during the press conference to announce the global warming conference, that it will discuss global warming and its most important characteristics and impacts on food security, through four main themes and 24 specialized scientific research papers, showcasing 8 papers per day.

Al Ghais also commented on the fisheries and the elimination of coral reefs and their impact on fish and other marine animals, and methods of sustainable agricultural production, local and global food security, organic products, food contamination, and diseases affecting agricultural soil, plants and animals.

He pointed out that the authority sent instructions to establishments operating in the emirate which uses groundwater to amend their work conditions according to the laws in force in the state, and during the last period, 4 factories and a farm were shut down for using groundwater in unauthorized activities.

He also stressed that the cement factories in the emirate committed to adopting initiatives and projects that serve the environment by reducing energy consumption ratio by 70% through the reuse of released gases in manufacturing processes.
