The Environment Protection and Development Authority in Ras Al Khaimah, in cooperation with the Department of Public Services in Ras Al Khaimah, has removed a number of beehives in different parts of the Emirate. who complained to EPDA about the danger of nearby honey bees to the students and staff, and the concern and inconvenience caused by it, as well as its proximity to residential areas, where also residents of those areas raised complaints.
Dr. Saif Al Ghais, Executive Director of RAK Environment said "The inspection teams and environmental officers in EPDA during the past stage, imposed irregularities on beekeepers and honey producers, and the removal of many apiaries in different areas of the Emirate" because of beekeeping and their activity near residential and civilian areas and adjacent to schools, and violate the law and environmental regulations and regulations in force, concerning the organization of the beekeeping and honey production sector, which stipulates that the distance between beehives and housing should not be less than half a kilometer.
