Closure of Tire Recycling Plant for its Environmental Violations

03 October 2017

The Environmental Protection and Development Authority in Ras Al Khaimah has suspended a recycling plant for car tires and imposed a fine on it, which was described as “Huge”, after seizing a number of environmental violations committed by the industrial establishment and seized by the environmental inspectors. Besides the absence of security and safety standards for workers inside the facility. EPDA stressed that it will not allow the industrial facility to reopen its doors and resume work and production until it ends its violations and meets environmental standards and apply the safety requirements of workers. Dr. Saif Al Ghais, Executive Director of the Authority: The factory which is located in Al Ghail Industrial Area, about 45 kilometers south of Ras Al Khaimah, was a surprise inspection by the EPDA's inspectors, which uncovered soil pollution inside and around the industrial facility as a result of many things as: its non-compliance with the regulations, the lack of hygiene in the establishment, and the lack of security and safety systems to enhance the safety of workers and protect them from the risks of accidents and work injuries. Dr. Al-Ghais pointed out to the violations of the factory, yesterday afternoon, in an inspection campaign carried out in the light of a complaint filed by a number of citizens against the facility, pointing out that the factory workers did not comply with wearing "hats" and protective clothing, appropriate for this type of industrial activities, which are practiced inside the facility, in addition The workers are not obliged to wear "protective gloves" in their hands, despite dealing with hazardous materials, Environmental inspectors in Ras Al Khaimah monitored irregularities inside the factory, revealing that the facility lacks the most basic occupational safety standards for workers, including the absence of a "ladder" inside the facility, which forces workers to use traditional "tables" to climb and spend some work and procedures.
